Indiana Water

Outreach Program

Goal

Our goal is to provide educational outreach activities that deal with educating Indiana citizens on water quality issues, and ways that they can protect Indiana's water resources.  By working as a team, our outreach efforts should be improved, enhanced, and expanded.

Program 1

The Purdue Pesticide Programs (PPP) office is joining with the Indiana Water Resources Research Center as major Outreach Cooperator.  Purdue Pesticide Programs (PPP), a function of the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service (CES), has a unique, interdisciplinary purpose relative to pesticide issues.  Its mission encompasses three broad areas: implementation of pesticide education outreach programs directed at pesticide user groups and the general public; coordination of pesticide research and pesticide impact assessment projects between Agricultural Experiment Station researchers and Cooperative Extension specialists; and transfer of regulatory information from EPA and the Office of the Indiana State Chemist to the regulated community and other interested parties.

The Purdue Pesticide Programs has been very active over the last few years in publishing a series of pesticide publications (approximately 100 different publications).  These publications are written for professionals who work in government, universities, associations, and also for the general public who want to understand pesticide issues beyond the headlines.

Program 2

The IWRRC has partnered with the Purdue Home and Environment program as the program is designed to provide homeowners with science-based information about their homes and how they reduce their environmental impact. The site contains several Purdue Extension publications on various topics relating to septic systems. In combination with IWRRC we plan to add more topics in the future. The Home and Environment program has been very active over the last years as they seek to fill a need that has gone unmet in Indiana. The IWRRC is keenly interested in fostering their activities and support this work. The publications are written for the general public who want to understand environmental issues and want to make informed decisions.
